Baptism

Baptism is a purposeful moment in our faith journey by which we express publicly our intent to be a life-long follower of Jesus. Baptism does not save us, is not required for salvation and holds no mystic power in and of itself. That being said, it is a profoundly powerful moment in the life of a follower of Jesus and the community around him/her.

Similar to a wedding, where two people stand and acknowledge before friends and family their intent to serve and love one another from this point forward, baptism is a similar public vow. It is an outward confession of an interior decision. It is a proclamation of purposeful intent to lay down my personal story and take up the story of Jesus. It is done publicly amongst the community of faith as both a proclamation and an invitation to know and be known. It is a statement that you don’t want to walk out your faith as a private consumer, but rather as part of a purposeful community.

Baptism also serves as a point of demarcation in the life of a follower of Jesus. Scripture is clear that we have a real enemy of our souls (Satan) and that he is a liar & accuser (Rev. 12:10). Baptism serves as an identifiable point in our journey where we can identify that we have a very purposeful and public “yes” to Jesus. As the enemy attacks and accuses, we can reflect on our purposeful “yes” and dispel the lies and accusations that call into question our intent to follow Jesus.
We do baptisms during one of our services multiple times a year. If you are interested or feel you’re ready to take this important step in your journey, let us know. We’d love to come along side you and celebrate your intent to step into the story God intends for you as a life-long follower of Jesus.
